Once felt to be a non-issue, childhood acid reflux is getting attention as a real problem. Here's why you shouldn't turn a blind eye to your child's symptoms: 1. Your child can't speak for herself. You as a parent are the front line in identifying the subtle signs of acid reflux in your child. And as your child's only advocate it is up to you to see to it that your child gets the care she deserves. 2... Read more...

Resolve To Have Fun!
Being overweight is a strong risk factor for acid reflux disease and esophageal erosions. The risk for these disorders progressively increases with increasing weight. I suspect many of you are already well aware of these facts and would love to begin 2009 by getting in better shape. This SharePost is written for you! Unfortunately, somewhere in the late 20th century we veered off track and started to equate exercise only with things...

Is Octomom a Reflux Mom?
Am I the only one wondering if Octomom is really a Reflux Mom? I know you have heard about the mother in California who recently gave birth prematurely to octuplets. While others have been speculating on the medical bills for octuplets (staggering) and calculating the cost of diapers for eight babies (thousands), I have been considering the combined spit up capabilities of eight preemies. The fact is most preemies have significant... Continue reading...

Does Standing Up While Eating Help?
My son with reflux is now 6 years old. For the past several years, it seems my husband and I never get to the end of a meal without arguing with our son about sitting down while he finishes eating, because without fail, after the first half of his meal, my son always jumps up from his chair and begins to walk around the table, telling us that he is uncomfortable sitting down. My husband and I always attributed this behavior to the fact that... Read more...

Yes We Can! How Moms and Dads Changed the Law
Yes We Can! How Moms and Dads Changed the Law
Remember the Obama supporters chanting, “Yes We Can!” over and over during the recent presidential campaign? Americans everywhere were getting involved in the election and political process for the first time. While I am a registered voter and try to make an informed decision in the voting booth, I seldom get involved in political activities. Last year was different because I joined other parents and helped to change the...

GERD Parenting Sins Part 1: Spoiling the Baby
GERD Parenting Sins Part 1: Spoiling the Baby
Let me start by saying, I have committed all of the GERD Parenting Sins....I rocked my reflux baby to sleep and let her come in my bed even though others told me that I was spoiling the baby and setting myself up for a severe and long term sleep issue. I let me reflux baby eat on demand 24/7 even though that was considered way too often. I even resorted to “waitress syndrome” and made my toddler customized meals at a moments notice...

National Children's Dental Health Month
This year, the American Dental Association (ADA) marks the 60th anniversary of celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month. Each February, the ADA promotes the importance of regular brushing, diet and dental visits for the dental health of children. Dr. Eisner Answers Your Questions About Acid Reflux
I recently reached menopause and was started on hormone replacement therapy and have noticed an increase in heartburn. Is there any relation? It has long been known, that when women are pregnant, they have an increase in symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux symptoms. While some of this is due to the increase in intra-abdominal pressure related to the growing fetus, there is even an increase during the first trimester. This is felt to... Continue reading...
